Virtual 3D art gallery: what it is and when it is worth it

Updated on October 30, 2026

What a virtual 3D art gallery is, how it compares to portfolios, Instagram and 360° tours, and who it makes the most sense for.

A virtual 3D art gallery is a digital exhibition space: a room modeled in three dimensions, with walls, light and floor, where artworks hang at their real size. Visitors enter through a link and walk freely around the room, like a simple video game, without installing anything.

How it compares to other ways of showing art online

  • Instagram and social media: great for reach, but they show one work at a time, cropped and mixed with everything else. No scale and no exhibition context.
  • Portfolio or website: organized, but it is a page of images. There is no route and no sense of space.
  • 360° tour of a physical gallery: faithful to the place, but it needs a real space, a photographer and equipment, and works cannot be swapped later.
  • 3D gallery: combines the route of an exhibition with the convenience of a link. You change the works whenever you like, with no installation cost.

Who it makes the most sense for

  • Artists without gallery representation who want to show a complete series.
  • Artists with works in different cities or already sold, who want to bring them together.
  • Photographers, illustrators and printmakers presenting a cohesive collection.
  • Schools, courses and collectives holding end-of-term shows (see the guide virtual student exhibitions).
  • Galleries and cultural spaces that want a permanent online extension.

What to look for in a platform

  • Does it work on phones? Most visits come from WhatsApp and Instagram links, which means phones.
  • Do visitors need an account or app? Every extra step makes people give up.
  • Real sizes: the work has to appear at the right scale on the wall.
  • Artwork details: title, technique, text and price on click.
  • Statistics: knowing how many people came in and what they looked at.
  • Commission: some platforms take a share of sales.

On My Virtual Gallery visitors need no account, galleries open on phones and computers, works appear at their real size, and the platform takes no commission on sales: the artist arranges the sale directly with the buyer.
